Overview LifeLong Medical Care is searching for a highly motivated Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary team at the Berkeley Trust Health Center located in Berkeley, CA. This is a per diem position supervised under the Director of Specialty Services-Psychiatry. The Psychiatrist will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver quality psychosocial services to health center patients, provide direct mental health care for patients in primary care, consult with non-psychiatric providers, and supervise psychiatric advanced practice providers. Patients are referred for psychiatric care from all Health Center/Program locations throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties. This position is represented by UAPD; salaries and benefits are set by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and employees must remain a member in good standing of UAPD.

Compensation: Psychiatrist $115.00 - $138.00 per hour, depending on years since licensure.

Responsibilities

Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental illnesses through a combination of psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.

Perform initial psychiatric assessments, develop individualized care plans, and implement treatment for the patient.

Assess patients through interviews, observations, tests, and medical history reviews.

Monitor and record client progress, amending treatment plans according to patient response.

Provide verbal and written education and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers.

Plan follow-up care, including requests for outside consultations and evaluations.

Maintain patient records necessary for clinic reporting, billing, and quality improvement.

Function potentially in a variety of settings, including a health center, skilled nursing facilities, supportive housing sites, and clients' homes.

Provide patients with emotional support and strategies to manage their disorder.

Stay current with new developments in psychiatry and mental health.

Participate as a member of the site clinical services team and attend clinical team meetings.

Coordinate care with other health team members, including case management and behavioral health staff, and provide clinical consultation with other clinicians.

Act as an advocate for the patient and liaison with outside agencies as appropriate.

May supervise Advanced Practice Psychiatric Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants).

Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members to drive initiatives aligned with the organization's mission, strategic goals, federal and state laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.

Cross‑clinic work is required over multiple sites.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Medical degree required; must have completed a psychiatry residency and be board‑eligible.

Current and unrestricted Medical License to practice in California, or a California Nurse Practitioner license and Board Certification as a PMHNP or PA‑C.

Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration to prescribe certain medications.

Interest in working with a diverse patient population in a community‐based organization, with sensitivity to their needs and a commitment to prevention and primary care.

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.

Job Preferences

Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

Experience in a federally qualified health center or other community health environment preferred.

Experience as part of a team‑based care model.

Experience with Electronic Health Record systems, Epic preferred.

Spanish language proficiency preferred.
