Regional Newborn Hospitalist Opportunity - Northeast Ohio

Akron Children’s is expanding the Division of Newborn Medicine to provide regional coverage in Northeast Ohio. We are seeking dedicated, compassionate Newborn Hospitalists to join our growing team. We welcome new graduates or established providers to provide care for well newborns, attend level 2 deliveries and support the Special Care Nursery patients. There is connectivity between the newborn hospitalists, neonatologists, and specialists from Akron Children’s Hospital offering a collaborative approach to patient care.
Physicians will have flexibility to work in a dedicated nursery setting full time (12‑12h shifts per month) or split time in a community Level 2 Special Care Nursery (SCN) within a community hospital (24h shifts), pediatric inpatient service at a community hospital (24h shifts) or pediatric inpatient service at the Akron campus (12h shifts).
Key Responsibilities include:
Provide comprehensive care for well newborns
Attend and manage level 2 deliveries, ensuring the health and safety of newborns
Collaborate with a NICU team for backup and support
Ensure high standards of clinical care and patient safety
Communicate effectively with families, providing education and support
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality patient care
Maintain accurate and timely medical records
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities
Qualifications include:
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
Board Certified / Board Eligible in Pediatrics
Valid medical license to practice in the state of Ohio
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), PALS and BLS certification required (will be provided for those not currently certified)
Strong clinical skills and experience in newborn resuscitation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented environment
Commitment to providing compassionate and patient‑centered care
Circumcision skills are a plus
