Position Summary:
The Department of Radiology at CUIMC seeks an experienced and strategic financial leader to serve as the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A). Reporting directly to the Department Administrator/Chief Administrative Officer, the Director will oversee all budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analytical functions across the Department’s missions—clinical care, research, and education. The Director will also serve as the primary financial lead for two imaging joint ventures with NewYork‑Presbyterian Hospital, managing budgeting, performance reporting, and partnership‑related financial operations. This role will play a critical role in financial strategy, operational decision support, and long‑range planning for one of the largest and most complex clinical departments at CUIMC.
Responsibilities
Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead the development, consolidation, and management of the annual operating and capital budgets for all departmental missions.
Prepare multi‑year financial plans, forecasts, and scenario analyses to support departmental strategy and resource allocation.
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes in collaboration with CUIMC Finance and other institutional partners.
Evaluate financial performance trends and provide actionable insights to departmental leadership.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Produce accurate, timely, and comprehensive financial reports across clinical, research, and education portfolios, including variance reporting and KPI dashboards.
Develop and maintain analytic tools and models to support decision‑making, operational improvements, and program evaluations.
Partner with mission leaders, section chiefs, and administrative managers to interpret financial data and guide departmental planning.
Monitor departmental financial commitments and reporting to senior leadership and individual stakeholders on status of commitment.
Joint Venture Financial Oversight
Serve as financial lead for two imaging joint ventures with the hospital, managing budgets, forecasts, monthly reporting, and capital planning.
Ensure compliance with joint venture agreements, financial policies, and reporting requirements.
Coordinate with hospital finance teams, CUIMC leadership, and external partners to support governance and performance optimization.
Strategic & Operational Leadership
Advise the Department Administrator/CAO and Chair on financial strategy, resource allocation, risk assessment, and long‑term planning.
Lead or support financial modeling for new programs, faculty recruitment, equipment acquisitions, and space planning.
Partner with clinical operations, research administration, education leadership, and central university offices to ensure alignment and transparency.
Team Leadership & Process Improvement
Manage and develop a high‑performing FP&A team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and service excellence.
Implement best practices, automate processes, and enhance financial systems and tools to improve efficiency and data quality.
Ensure adherence to university, hospital, and regulatory financial policies and practices.
Additional Responsibilities
Oversee purchasing and accounts payable function for the department, including workflow and approval processes for requisition, vouchers, purchasing and corporate cards, travel and expense reimbursements and payment programs for human subjects.
Manage financial systems access for department and annual review of systems access.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial planning, budgeting, or analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MPH, or related).
Experience with academic clinical departments, research administration, or multi‑mission environments.
Familiarity with university financial systems, hospital finance, or joint‑venture structures.
Strategic and analytical thinking.
Financial acumen in healthcare or academic medicine.
Leadership and team development.
Cross‑functional collaboration.
Judgment, discretion, and ability to manage sensitive financial matters.
Other Requirements
Demonstrated experience in complex academic medical centers, healthcare finance, or university administration.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with expertise in financial modeling and data interpretation.
Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage teams and collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non‑financial audiences.
