The Tax Senior Manager is responsible for leading and reviewing complex tax engagements for business and individual clients across a broad range of industries. This role serves as a primary client contact, overseeing engagement execution while acting as a key liaison between tax professionals and firm leadership to ensure timely delivery of high-quality, compliant work.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement comprehensive tax planning strategies aligned with client objectives while minimizing tax exposure
Evaluate and advise on complex tax matters, including mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions
Manage a portfolio of tax engagements, supervising staff and reviewing work for accuracy, compliance, and adherence to firm standards
Monitor engagement timelines, budgets, and scope, making adjustments as necessary to meet client expectations
Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and industry developments
Lead tax research initiatives to resolve complex issues and support informed client decision-making
Apply technical expertise to client engagements and internal training initiatives
Clearly communicate complex tax concepts and strategies to clients in a practical and accessible manner
Prepare and deliver client presentations outlining tax positions, planning opportunities, and financial implications
Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor on tax-related matters
Oversee the preparation and review of tax returns to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and internal quality standards
Manage tax filing deadlines, extensions, and compliance requirements to ensure timely submissions
Ensure ongoing compliance with evolving tax regulations and firm policies
Supervise, mentor, and develop tax professionals through coaching, feedback, and performance management
Promote a collaborative team environment focused on knowledge sharing and continuous learning
Participate in and contribute to internal training and professional development initiatives
Partner with firm leadership to identify and pursue business development opportunities
Assist with proposal development and presentations to prospective clients
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
8+ years of relevant tax experience
Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) license
Experience in a professional services environment (e.g., CPA firm or financial consulting firm)
Completion of required CPE credits
Proficiency with tax software including CCH ProSystem fx, Axcess Tax, Axcess Document, Axcess Workstream, Thomson Reuters Fixed Assets CS, and Checkpoint
