Job Summary San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Principal, San Pasqual Academy (SPA) within the Juvenile Court and Community Schools department of the Student Services and Programs division. This position is located in rural North County, San Diego. The Principal is responsible for planning, organizing and providing instructional and administrative leadership and guidance to staff and students; directing implementation of instructional programs; serving as liaison with districts, the County Office, community agencies, parents and the public; and coordinating activities and addressing issues, situations and/or problems that arise on campus or with enrolled students.

San Pasqual Academy is a residential education campus designed specifically for foster youth and serves as a placement option for dependents of the Juvenile Court (ages 12‑17) and non‑minor dependents up to age 19. A seamless delivery of services is provided through a public‑private partnership between the County of San Diego, Rite of Passage, San Diego County Office of Education, and Access, Inc. Residential and educational services for foster youth include:

Independent living skills

Work readiness training

Therapeutic services

Extra‑curricular and enrichment activities

Family connections

Relational permanency

Responsibilities The Principal will lead instructional and administrative operations, ensuring quality educational programs and fostering a supportive learning environment for staff and students. Responsibilities include:

Planning, organizing, and directing instructional and administrative programs.

Serving as the primary liaison between the Academy, district schools, community partners, parents, and the public.

Coordinating campus activities and addressing issues that arise with staff or students.

Providing coaching and evaluation of teaching staff.

Requirements / Qualifications Education and Experience Education:

Master’s degree in education, education administration, or a related field.

Experience:

Two (2) years of increasingly responsible educational administrative services experience in a school setting, with responsibility for coaching or evaluating teaching staff.

Equivalency A combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in education, education administration, or a related area, and two (2) to three (3) years of increasingly responsible educational administrative services experience in a school setting, with responsibility for coaching or evaluating teaching staff.

Certificates, Licenses, and Credentials

Valid CA Administrative Services Credential

Valid California Teaching Credential

Applicants who currently hold a valid Certificate of Eligibility or meet all requirements for an Administrative Services Credential (CL‑574c) issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) are welcome to apply.
