Job Summary The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for Department Head for Social Foundations and Leadership Education in the College of Education on the Dahlonega campus. The head ensures quality of instruction, research, and programs; directs faculty, formulates and recommends policies, and administers department rules and regulations. The role leads faculty in developing strong, pedagogically sound curricula, oversees promotion, tenure, professional development, evaluation, and personnel issues, and collaborates on recruitment and retention strategies. The department head’s responsibilities support UNG’s Core Experience for Students and reflect the university’s commitment to academic excellence and community engagement.

Responsibilities

Manage and build the semester course schedule and faculty assignments.

Represent the department at state accreditation and assessment meetings, collaborate with the Associate Dean of Assessment and Accreditation to monitor program performance data, and maintain efficient records and reporting systems.

Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Student Support Services to monitor academic program performance and address student issues.

Handle faculty issues, ensure faculty understand the annual review process, conduct evaluations, and keep faculty informed.

Work with faculty on curricular review and development, facilitate new courses and programs, and manage the submission of documentation to the College’s Curriculum Committee and the institutional management system.

Consistently review and update the department catalogue for programs and courses.

Post part‑time and full‑time positions as needed, oversee hiring committees, and ensure faculty are trained on search committee procedures.

Select mentors for new faculty and facilitate onboarding and knowledge sharing.

Guide the Pre‑Tenure, Promotion and Tenure, and Post‑Tenure processes with faculty, including portfolio preparation and committee selection.

Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Community Engagement to provide professional development, workshops, and faculty participation in service events.

Develop departmental guidelines, procedures, and policies in addition to those listed in the Faculty Handbook.

Collaborate on student recruitment and overall recruitment plans for each department and program.

Maintain departmental web pages and manage ongoing web development.

Manage general communication and dissemination of information to students, faculty, and staff, and hold regular departmental meetings.

Represent the department at Dean leadership meetings and other on‑campus meetings, including Academic Affairs.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate in Education, research, or a related field (required).

Experience with CRM platforms/software for scheduling and communications.

Experience with K‑12 education and partnerships.

Experience teaching courses at the college level in online, hybrid, and face‑to‑face modalities.

Record of scholarly activity.

Experience with accreditation processes.

Prior leadership experience, including supervisory roles.
