Fuel Cycle Modeling Scientist – Role Description This is a full-time on-site role for a Fuel Cycle Modeling Scientist, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The position is ideal for candidates with specialized expertise in nuclear fuel performance, isotopic depletion, and fuel cycle analysis who are passionate about optimizing the entire fuel lifecycle for an advanced reactor system.
Responsibilities You will work closely with our cross-functional team—including reactor physics, materials science, and regulatory engineers—to perform in-depth analysis and modeling of the fuel's behavior, depletion, and long-term performance. This role is focused on developing the fuel cycle strategy, optimizing fuel efficiency, modeling source terms, and ensuring safety throughout the entire lifecycle of Hadron's micro modular reactor.
Qualifications & Skillsets
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in
Nuclear Engineering ,
Materials Science ,
Physics , or a related field
5+ years of experience in
nuclear fuel cycle analysis
and
fuel performance modeling
Deep expertise in
isotopic depletion and transmutation
simulation tools
Proficiency in codes such as
SCALE (ORIGEN) ,
Serpent ,
MCNP , or equivalent for fuel cycle and depletion analysis
Strong understanding of
nuclear fuel materials ,
radiation damage , and the
thermal-mechanical
behavior of fuel
Experience with fuel performance codes (e.g.,
BISON ,
FRAPCON ) is highly desirable
Knowledge of
spent nuclear fuel
characteristics,
waste management , and
regulatory frameworks
Familiarity with fuel fabrication or enrichment processes is a plus
Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills
Passion for clean energy and a startup-minded approach to problem-solving
