Urology Nurse Practitioner Job Description
The Urology Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides specialized care to patients with urologic conditions in collaboration with urologists and the healthcare team. The NP is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care in both outpatient and inpatient settings. This role involves managing chronic and acute urologic conditions, performing minor procedures, and providing patient education.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive urologic assessments and physical exams
Order and interpret labs, imaging, and diagnostic tests
Diagnose and manage conditions such as kidney stones, BPH, incontinence, UTIs, and erectile dysfunction
Assist with pre- and post-operative care, including catheter management and wound care
Perform or assist with in-office procedures (e.g., cystoscopy, catheter placement/removal)
Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans in collaboration with urologists
Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment options, and self-care
Document all care accurately in the electronic medical record
Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and ancillary staff to coordinate care
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education
