We seek a skilled expert in the high-risk crisis response topics of workplace violence prevention, insider risk, protective intelligence and threat assessment to join our expanding threat management team.
The role of Associate Director is that of a fee-earning consultant who will be expected to market, sell and deliver end-to-end consulting projects including both readiness and responsive services related to workplace violence (WPV) prevention. Some of these projects will include WPV prevention program reviews and collateral development, executive briefings and trainings, WPV and active shooter training, and crisis management exercise development and facilitation. In addition, the individual will advise clients who are dealing with crisis situations and challenges related to an evolving threat environment leveraging previous experiences in this area as well as knowledge of Control Risks' processes. This role will require 24/7 availability and preparation of detailed threat assessment reports pertaining to complex threat situations will be required as well.
Tasks And Responsibilities
Work with team members and independently on consulting engagements of diverse scope and complexity consistent with industry best practice and drawing on personal experiences. Specifically:
- Deliver executive briefings independently and as a member of a team
- Develop response plans for crisis situations
- Conduct needs assessments on workplace violence programs
- Review, develop and optimize tailored threat identification and mitigation processes for a variety of client organizations
- Simultaneously manage a broad range of crisis and security consulting projects, including client relationship management and oversight of junior staff on engagements
- Deliver crisis intervention and conflict resolution training
- Support clients as they work through crisis situations
- Actively market our expertise in speaking engagements and thought leadership
- Conduct business development activities including client meetings and outreach, proposal development and speaking events
- Independently secure new business as a senior seller servicer
- Contribute to marketing activities such as article contribution, speaking engagements, industry group participation and partner channel support
- Serve as an ambassador for broader consulting services
Knowledge and experience
- 10+ years of relevant work experience
- 5+ years professional experience in threat assessment and management
- Excellent client relationship and project management skills
- Proven track record managing teams either in an in-house or consulting environment
- Superior verbal and written communications; candidate must be comfortable speaking in front of large and senior executive audiences
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time and on short notice
- Preferred: Experience in workplace violence prevention and threat assessment and management within the corporate setting
- Preferred: Experience working on or leading cross-functional threat assessment teams
- Preferred: Previous law enforcement experience
- Preferred: Formal training or certifications in threat assessment and management, such as ATAP's CTM, the FBI's BAU, or other university, government, or private sector courses/certifications
- Ability to work extended hours including weekends and evenings
- Ownership and accountability to drive success both within the team and across Control Risks
- The ability to multi-task and balance competing requirements, including client-facing, business development related and internal matters
- Creative and analytical problem-solving skills
- Confident, solution-oriented and with a positive attitude

- Chicago and Houston: $135,000-$145,000 per year.
- Washington DC: $140,000-$150,000 per year.
- New York City and San Francisco: $145,000-$155,000 per year.
