General Summary
The Monitor Clerk/Unit Clerk is responsible for both clerical and receptionist duties as well as office supply procurement. Additionally, the Monitor Clerk/Unit Clerk is responsible for observation of all telemetry units, ICU monitors, and bedside assistance as needed.
Duties include:
- Functions as key communicator and information agent for the unit and maintains the information flow. Monitors/maintains desk equipment. Complete special lists, logs, reports, and statistics as appropriate to the unit. Inventories/orders supplies as directed. Operate a multi-line phone system.
- Transfers and discharges patients promptly upon departure from the unit. Maintains printer and fax machine. Enters and updates patient information.
- Manages and performs clerical tasks such as updating daily orders, faxes/tubes all orders to the pharmacy. Assembles admission/discharge charts according to standard, performs patient admission/transfer/death procedures, transcribes physician orders carrying out proper procedures for scheduling and consults, files patient data, and adheres EKG strips to appropriate mounting sheet and file.
- Observes EKG monitors in accordance with department procedures. Admits floor patients to telemetry and sets up the screen appropriately.
- Answers call system in a timely manner and identifies the need of patient to report to the appropriate caregiver.
- Keeps patient areas neat and uncluttered. Cleans and defrosts refrigerators as needed. Monitors inventory supplies and linen.
- Assist at bedside as needed. Notifies RN of any pertinent physical, psychosocial, or emotional findings.
- Demonstrates a positive response in the workplace. Interacts with patients, visitors, and all personnel in a courteous/helpful manner.
- Assists in assuring safety measures are in place for patients.
- All other duties as assigned.
