Supervising Commissioning Engineer (Mission Critical Power Systems)

Join to apply for the Supervising Commissioning Engineer (Mission Critical Power Systems) role at ON.energy. ON.energy is building the power infrastructure that makes the AI era possible. As AI demand surges past what the grid and traditional data centers can support, ON.energy provides a new class of power technology proven at gigawatt scale and trusted by the world’s leading cloud and AI companies. Our systems are already deployed across 2.5 GW of hyper‑scale campuses, validated by top U.S. national labs, and certified for grid‑safe operation by major utilities. With real products in the field, we’re scaling faster than the grid can, transforming power from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage for the companies building the future. Site‑based, 80% travel role

The Supervising Commissioning Engineer is a site‑based role responsible for leading day‑to‑day commissioning execution on large‑scale, mission‑critical data center projects. This position provides on‑site technical leadership, manages field teams, and drives commissioning activities to meet safety, quality, and schedule objectives. The Supervising Commissioning Engineer establishes the execution cadence on site, escalates risks and issues, and ensures alignment with commissioning leadership and project stakeholders. Responsibilities

Provide overall leadership and technical oversight of the commissioning process from installation through acceptance testing and handover to services. Serve as the on‑site commissioning lead, managing site‑based technical teams (10–50 personnel) and coordinating daily activities to meet critical path demands. Lead day‑to‑day commissioning execution in data center environments, bringing deep familiarity with mission‑critical infrastructure, terminology, and standard workflows. Drive daily commissioning “blocking and tackling,” prioritizing efficient execution of procedures and maximum equipment throughput. Establish and maintain the execution cadence (“drumbeat”) of site commissioning activities. Proactively identify, elevate, and support resolution of technical issues, risks, and constraints, while maintaining alignment with commissioning leadership. Act as the primary on‑site point of contact for project stakeholders, including Project Managers, Project Engineers, Customers, OEMs, and Vendors. Ensure compliance with safety requirements, grid interconnection standards, and applicable regulatory and site‑specific requirements. Develop and execute commissioning plans, test plans, procedures, and schedules. Interpret and manage project‑specific task orders, change orders, and MSAs. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and high‑level troubleshooting for major system issues. Provide final commissioning sign‑off and complete commissioning documentation. Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians. Qualifications

5+ years of experience in data center electrical commissioning, including large‑scale mission‑critical facilities. Hands‑on experience with UPS power systems, including commissioning, testing, and integration with critical power infrastructure. Extensive experience with power systems, BESS, control architecture, and commissioning. Strong background in system integration, grid compliance, and site‑based execution. Proficiency with SCADA systems, communication protocols, and power conversion systems. Proven leadership and project management experience in field‑based roles. Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, or other engineering discipline (or equivalent practical experience). Safety certifications (OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, First Aid, CPR, AED) preferred.
