Description The Bed Management Specialist will provide patient services and administrative support in clinic operations, interacting with parents, patients, physicians, and other staff under moderate supervision in a courteous manner. Responsibilities include obtaining and validating patient information from various sources, ensuring accurate entry into the computer management system, performing registration for all inpatients and outpatients, completing required forms and signatures, managing the managed care notification process, and contacting payers to obtain precertification, co‑pay, and deductible information, notifying patients of any required payments.

Qualifications

Minimum Education : High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Minimum Work Experience : 2 years related experience, including billing, patient registration, scheduling, medical insurance verification, insurance screening, and charge posting (Required)

Functional Accountabilities Technical Responsibilities

Assign beds to patients in accordance with the Accommodation Policy.

Change the accommodation code for transfers that cannot be accommodated.

Assign beds within 15 minutes of patient arrival to floor4 and notify AD of Direct Admissions Update in the Cerner Application for ER admissions.

Communicate with AD/Unit if unable to accommodate patient within 15 minutes.

Collaborate with Insurance Verification to ensure reimbursement criteria are met.

Refer direct admits to Insurance Verification for processing.

Contact AD regarding inpatient transfers from other hospitals.

Respond to telephone bed requests and complete information on Request for Admission Forms.

Admit NICU babies as quickly as possible.

Maintain waiting list of patients to be admitted; keep physicians and patients aware of admission status.

Complete Quality Assurance reports daily, monitor OPO beds in the ED.

Ensure all applicable admission forms are completed in their entirety.

Function as a Registrar when requested.

Customer Service

Meet or exceed hospital/department "Service Excellence" standards as outlined by CNMC.

Meet or exceed hospital/department telephone etiquette standards.

Answer the phone within 3 rings.

Assume responsibility for any call answered to completion, asking permission before placing callers on hold or transferring.

Thank callers for calling CNMC.

Assist with interpreter services when possible.

Maintain composure during difficult situations; exhibit sensitivity and good judgment when resolving patient problems and referring issues to the department manager.

Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation.
