Position Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to patients undergoing ophthalmic surgical procedures in a high‑volume, fast‑paced outpatient environment, caring for patients during the preoperative, intraoperative, and post‑anesthesia recovery phases.
Job Duties & Essential Functions
Preoperative: Perform nursing assessments, pre‑surgical checklists, initiate IVs and administer pre‑operative medications, educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures and recovery expectations.
Intraoperative: Serve as circulating nurse during cataract, LASIK, oculoplastic, retina, glaucoma surgeries; ensure patient safety, accurate documentation, and maintain a sterile surgical environment; collaborate closely with the surgical team and anesthesia providers.
Post‑Anesthesia Recovery: Monitor and assess patients during recovery, manage pain, nausea, and respond to complications per physician protocols, provide discharge instructions, ensure readiness for safe transition home.
General Responsibilities: Maintain accurate documentation in EHR, communicate effectively with surgeons, technologists, and admin staff, rigorously follow infection control and patient safety guidelines, support performance improvement initiatives, assist with room turnover and supply management, act as a preceptor for new hires and nursing assistants/LPNs, maintain HIPAA compliance, and participate in special projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
Completion of a nursing program with clinical rotations in surgical, perioperative, or acute care settings.
Active registered nursing (RN) license in the state of employment.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification – preferred (or obtained within 6 months of hire).
Willingness and ability to work across all clinical areas of the ASC.
Strong organizational skills, clinical judgment, and eagerness to develop surgical nursing competencies.
Familiarity with electronic health records and surgical documentation systems.
Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize care in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
1–2 years of experience in an ambulatory surgery center or outpatient surgical setting.
Prior experience in ophthalmic surgery (cataract, LASIK, retina, etc.).
Experience in preoperative, intraoperative, or PACU roles.
Work Schedule
Rotating Schedule – Days.
Salary Range
$40.00 – $46.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
