Overview Lead a small team (2–4 direct reports) at PPG's primary outdoor weathering site in South Florida. The site hosts approximately 80,000 painted metal test panels (4" × 12") on exposure racks. You will spend about 50 % of your time outdoors in extreme heat and humidity performing and overseeing panel handling, inspections, gloss/color measurements, rack maintenance, and photography.
Full site ownership includes safety, quality, budget, security, hiring, performance management, customer presentations, and global stakeholder alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management – supervise 2–4 technicians, develop and coach staff, manage personnel decisions.
Hands‑On Field & Technical Work – receive, inspect, rack, evaluate, and return painted metal panels; perform gloss, color, and visual evaluations; maintain racks and calibration; log weather conditions.
Site Management & Administration – full P&L responsibility, vendor negotiations, supply ordering, custodial and groundskeeping contracts.
Quality, Projects & Stakeholder Management – ensure testing follows industry and PPG standards, conduct audits, respond to customer issues, collaborate with global sites and business units.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, Biology/Ecology or related STEM field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience with prior people‑leadership experience.
Proven track record of leading small teams (2–10 people).
Willingness to work outdoors in extreme heat/humidity ~50 % of the time.
Experience in coatings, corrosion, or atmospheric exposure testing preferred.
Comfort with databases, LIMS systems, and Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication, conflict‑resolution, and influence‑without‑authority skills.
