Position Summary The senior mechanical engineer designs, modifies, plans, initiates, and manages projects, implements, and assesses equipment and staff performance standards that support effective equipment operations and efficient utilities usage. Mechanical systems and equipment include but are not limited to: HVAC, plumbing, steam, chilled water, and medical gas. Develops scope, specifications, and drawings for HVAC/mechanical projects. Performs engineering quality assurance reviews of large-scale and highly complex construction and renovation projects. Identifies short- and long-term capital needs of HVAC, controls, and mechanical systems, develops scope, procures budget estimates, and provides technical direction through project completion. Gathers and analyzes data and prepares capital and operations planning recommendations. Gathers and maintains documentation required for hospital accreditation through accrediting and regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission.
Operates with a very high level of autonomy and typically serves as an engineering planner/project coordinator utilizing both internal and external consultants and resources. Projects coordinated and managed by this position are of considerable scope, value, and frequently involve a high level of problem resolution and negotiation. This position manages the administrative functions of staff assigned to their projects including managing consulting engineers and leading internal staff.
Mentors and develops FOD Operations staff and supports the department’s goals and mission. Communicates across the health system, university administration, and other university facilities departments.
