Transmission Planning & Studies Engineer - Senior Professional WSP in the U.S. invites applicants to join our Denver, CO office as a Transmission Planning & Studies Engineer – Senior Professional. This role collaborates with our SCADA and Analytical Services Team to deliver innovative engineering solutions for public and private sector projects.

This Opportunity Provide technical assistance and guidance for multi‑site and phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects. Routinely support research, design, concept development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, and protection and control systems.

Your Impact

Lead network studies for utilities and ISOs, mentoring others and driving project success.

Interface with other engineers to prepare computer‑based models and perform power system studies on utility transmission & distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems.

Conduct feasibility studies, system impact studies, reactive compensation studies, critical clearing time, stability (transient & dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, interconnection model development, power factor correction, and related studies.

Self‑manage time and communicate complex technical issues to decision‑makers and project teams.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, in adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are Qualified candidates bring a strong background in electrical engineering and transmission planning studies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

5 to 7 years of relevant post‑education experience in transmission planning.

Engineer in Training Certification.

Minimum three (3) years of experience with PSS/E.

Experience with leading projects and mentoring others.

Familiarity with ERCOT, its interconnection processes, and its system impact study requirements.

Willing to travel (up to 10% at times).

Ability to work successfully in a customer‑focused, project‑oriented environment.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and abiding by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

MSEE or PhD.

Five (5)+ years experience with PSS/E.

Seven to ten (7‑10) years of experience in transmission planning studies.

Familiarity with additional RTOs regarding interconnection process and system impact studies.

PE registration (or equivalent).

Additional desirable software: PSLF, TARA, PSCAD, Aspen Oneliner, ETAP, Power World and others as applicable.

Coding experience and automation development.

Compensation Expected Salary (Colorado only): $86,100 – $125,510. WSP USA reserves the right to offer amounts above or below this range based on qualifications and market conditions.
