Friendship Public Charter School , a high‑performing college‑preparatory network serving students from pre‑K3 to 12th grade in Washington, DC. We are seeking dedicated, mission‑aligned professionals for the 2026–2027 school year. Our formal interview process will begin in January 2026.

As the Special Education Coordinator (SEC), you will organize, facilitate, and support the Special Education Team’s administrative and instructional responsibilities. You will collaborate closely with the Director of Special Education, provide regular updates and compliance oversight, manage staff and service providers, and offer ongoing support to classroom teachers.

Responsibilities

Continuously share best practices and actively participate in a Professional Learning Community.

Communicate regularly with the Director of Special Education regarding student population, program evolution, and professional development needs.

Provide updates on student and staff demographics, program development, and compliance with special education law and regulations.

Maintain current IEP documentation and referral processes.

Manage special education staff and service providers, including parent communications and support sessions.

Adhere to school management and discipline policies.

Provide decision makers with information on federal, state, and local regulations governing special education.

Refine curriculum approaches and materials to increase student involvement and progress.

Establish working relationships with colleagues and develop reciprocal communication systems.

Support classroom teachers through instructional modeling, tailored materials, and specialized pull‑asides.

Plan with classroom colleagues to swap expertise and follow up with supportive instruction.

Qualifications

Preferred experience in the role.

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required; Master’s degree preferred.

Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, or successful completion of ETS PRAXIS II: Education of Exceptional Students (20353).

Five years of relevant Special Education classroom teaching experience required.

Five years of urban teaching experience preferred.

Salary range: Washington, DC $55,000 – $68,000.
