Job Description Project Engineer – ETO
About The Role Packsize is seeking a Project Engineer – ETO & Custom Solutions to join our ETO Team in Louisville, KY. This role serves as the technical and organizational bridge between the Solutions Engineering, R&D, and Operations teams to ensure successful delivery of engineered‑to‑order (ETO) and custom packaging automation systems.
You’ll manage the intake of project requirements from Solutions Engineering, translate those requirements into actionable engineering scopes, coordinate cross‑functional execution, and ensure that all supporting documentation is created for long‑term customer support.
The Project Engineer will also be responsible for pricing and scoping ETO projects, managing implementation activities, and generating service contracts for sustained customer success.
This position requires strong technical knowledge, project management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and customer‑facing teams.
Education, Experience, and Skills Desired
BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field)
5+ years of experience in engineering project management, systems integration, or automation environments
Experience managing custom equipment design projects
Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and industrial automation principles
Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks, Creo) and PLM tools (Windchill, PDM) is a plus
Proficient in generating technical documentation, scopes of work, and service agreements
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi‑disciplinary engineering efforts
Strong communication and organizational skills
Experience with project management tools such as DevOps, Confluence, or similar platforms
Understanding of lean product development and continuous improvement principles
Comfortable working with customers and internal stakeholders to define technical and commercial requirements
What You’ll Do
Serve as the primary technical liaison between Solutions Engineering and R&D for ETO and custom projects
Manage the intake, review, and clarification of customer requirements and ensure proper documentation of project scope
Develop and maintain project schedules, deliverables, and resource plans
Oversee the execution of signed projects from design through installation and support
Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls Engineers to ensure timely and accurate implementation
Ensure all supporting documentation—drawings, BOMs, configuration files, and manuals—is generated and archived for long‑term support
Generate scope of work and pricing estimates for ETO proposals and custom modifications
Write and maintain service contracts for long‑term support of custom solutions
Support handoff to manufacturing, service, and technical support teams post‑installation
Track and report project status using established Packsize tools and processes
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery and documentation standards
A Few Other Things
Up to 50% travel as needed for customer site visits, installations, and support
Ability to perform hands‑on prototype or system verification when required
Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment across engineering and operations teams
