Responsibilities

Patient Centered Care: Provide care and services respecting individual values, preferences, and needs, and treat patients or designees as full partners in collaborative and culturally appropriate care.

Obtain specific components of individualized, age‑appropriate care requirements from the registered nurse and/or licensed provider.

Communication: Interact effectively with patients, families, and all healthcare providers and employees, fostering mutual respect to enhance the patient experience and health outcomes.

Use appropriate methods to interact professionally with persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds, including varying cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial and ethnic contexts, sexual orientations, lifestyles and physical abilities.

Clinical Responsibilities: Perform clinical functions as per scope of practice. Functions may vary and are identified by clinical service area requirements.

As part of the rooming process: identify patient, introduce self to patient/family, explain role, escort patients to exam/procedure rooms, prepare patients for visit using standardized rooming workflow/protocol (e.g., vitals, height, weight, blood pressure, EKG, specimen collection, phlebotomy, INR, pulse oximetry, point‑of‑care testing).

Administrative Responsibilities: Perform clerical functions per scope of practice and clinical service requirements.

Send/receive patient medical records and abstract new patient records into EPIC.

Environmental Support Functions: Perform environmental support functions as per scope of practice.

Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.

Qualifications Education

A minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Completion of an approved, accredited, postsecondary medical assisting program, Nursing Assistant Program, or Patient Care Associate training.

Experience

Preferred 12‑18 months of prior work as a Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Patient Care Associate, preferably in an outpatient clinical setting or relevant patient‑care environment.

Licensure

Preferred current medical assisting credential (certifications or registration) acceptable to, and recognized by, the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Special Skills

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, peers, and interdisciplinary team; flexibility to adjust priorities and work plans based on patient and unit needs; professional, appropriate, effective, and tactful written, verbal, and nonverbal communication with patients, families, medical staff, colleagues, and all internal and external employees.

Physical Demand

Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds; perform tasks requiring physical endurance, dexterity, and proper body mechanics.
