Network Unified Communications Design Engineer Senior- SMIT
Support government‑led engineering efforts by providing day‑to‑day network and voice engineering across LAN, BAN, WAN, and VoIP environments. This role focuses on designing, integrating, operating, and troubleshooting secure enterprise and tactical communications systems in DoD environments.
Location: Quantico, VA
Rate: $80/hr (W2)
Responsibilities
Assist the Government Lead with daily engineering operations and system support
Perform administration and troubleshooting of LAN, BAN, and WAN environments
Plan and execute system conversions, migrations, and cutovers
Evaluate, design, and integrate network communication hardware and software
Troubleshoot complex network and voice‑related issues across enterprise environments
Design and support VoIP services, including servers, switches, routers, and supporting infrastructure
Integrate and support VoIP capabilities such as Extension Mobility, Unified Messaging, Emergency Responder, and Call Center operations
Design Layer 3 switching solutions and Tactical LAN Encryption (TACLANE) configurations
Support integration and transition of USMC and DISA Voice over Secure IP (VoSIP) services
Design and manage auxiliary voice VLANs and PSTN interfaces
Configure and support fax modules and voice system peripherals
Manage hardware, software, networking, and scheduling to support secure videoconferencing across DoN, DoD, Federal, and commercial networks
Integrate network devices with Active Directory (AD) and LDAP services
Perform rights and access management for administrators, users, and groups
Design, develop, and operate application networking ports, protocols, routing, LAN, and Information Assurance (IA) controls
Integrate Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates to support two‑factor authentication and eliminate password‑based access
Develop and maintain IP addressing schemes and address management documentation
Design and support multivendor network solutions using Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, and related technologies
Support DNS, DHCP, and enterprise directory services
Perform performance analysis, testing, and validation of large‑scale, complex network environments
Experience Requirements
Must have a minimum of 10+ years of experience.
Experience engineering and supporting large‑scale enterprise networks.
Strong background in LAN, WAN, VoIP, and secure network architectures.
Hands‑on experience with DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and VLAN design.
Experience integrating VoIP systems and secure voice services.
Knowledge of PKI, two‑factor authentication, and Information Assurance requirements.
Familiarity with Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, or similar enterprise network technologies.
Education Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business, or related field.* Must have an active Top Secret and CASP+ clearance.
ITIL v3 Foundation (required)
One or more professional‑level certifications preferred, such as:
Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP)
Fortinet Certified Network Security Professional (FCNSP)
Juniper Networks Certified Specialist Security (JNCIP‑SEC)
Certified Modeling & Simulation Professional (CMSP)
Or equivalent experience in lieu of certification
Compensation and Benefits Skills, experience, and other compensable factors will be considered when determining pay rate. This posting reflects an hourly rate for W2 employment; other employment options may be available that may result in pay outside the provided range.
