The Commercial Solar & BESS Superintendent is responsible for the on‑site leadership, coordination, and execution of commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects throughout California. This role requires extensive travel and in-depth technical knowledge of solar and battery systems, electrical construction, and California codes and standards. The Superintendent serves as the primary field authority, ensuring projects are built safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contract documents, AHJ requirements, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Field Leadership

Serve as the lead on-site superintendent for commercial solar PV and BESS installations.

Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily construction activities across multiple trades, including electrical, civil, structural, and commissioning teams.

Maintain overall responsibility for site logistics, sequencing, manpower planning, and productivity.

Travel extensively to project sites across California, including extended stays as required by project duration.

Technical Execution

Provide expert technical oversight of ground‑mount and rooftop commercial solar PV systems.

Battery Energy Storage Systems (AC‑coupled and DC‑coupled).

Medium‑ and low‑voltage electrical systems.

Inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, DAS, and controls.

Interpret and enforce construction drawings, specifications, single‑line diagrams, and manufacturer requirements.

Identify and resolve technical issues in the field, including constructability challenges and design conflicts.

Support commissioning, testing, and energization activities for both PV and BESS systems.

Safety & Compliance

Enforce company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site‑specific safety plans.

Conduct daily safety meetings (tailboards/JHAs) and ensure safe work practices at all times.

Ensure compliance with NEC, CBC, CEC, Title 24 requirements, utility interconnection requirements, and AHJ inspections and approvals.

Lead site inspections and coordinate corrective actions as needed.

Schedule, Quality & Cost Control

Develop and maintain short‑term and long‑term look‑ahead schedules.

Track progress against the project schedule and proactively mitigate delays.

Ensure high‑quality workmanship and adherence to QA/QC standards.

Monitor material deliveries, staging, inventory, and installation to minimize waste and rework.

Coordination & Communication

Act as the primary field contact with Project Managers, General Contractors, Subcontractors, Utility representatives, Inspectors and AHJs.

Provide clear daily and weekly updates on progress, risks, and manpower.

Document field conditions, changes, and issues through reports, photos, and logs.

Required Qualifications

7+ years of experience in commercial or utility‑scale solar construction, with direct superintendent or lead foreman experience.

Demonstrated hands‑on knowledge of solar PV and BESS systems, including installation, testing, and commissioning.

Strong electrical background with solid understanding of NEC and California electrical codes.

Proven experience managing traveling projects across multiple job sites.

Ability to read and interpret complex electrical and construction documents.

Strong leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively throughout California.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with large commercial or utility‑scale BESS projects.

NABCEP certification or equivalent industry credentials.

OSHA 30‑Hour certification.

Experience coordinating utility interconnections and AHJ inspections in California.

Background working for an electrical contractor or EPC specializing in solar and storage.

Physical & Travel Requirements

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and navigate construction sites.

Frequent statewide travel with overnight stays required.
