THE CHALLENGE The Electrical Engineer serves as a member of a team of technical Generation Engineering electrical experts. The engineer provides technical guidance for engineering issues related to the maintenance and optimization of generation facilities, leads engineering procurement and construction activities on plant improvement projects, and performs technical analyses and evaluations of emergent technology to support operational and financial objectives.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads engineering analysis and provides recommendations, standards, and guidelines for improved operation and maintenance practices, safety, reliability, procurement, construction, and testing on power plant improvement projects for the company’s fleet.

Leads development and oversight of project designs, specifications, and engineered solutions for various power plant equipment and systems.

Provides input to plant managers for annual budgets and spending requirements for maintenance, safety, and efficiency improvements of generation facilities.

Provides operating and maintenance standards to improve the operating reliability and efficiency of generating facilities.

Coordinates project design with input from plant representatives, contractors, and equipment suppliers to provide functional and cost‑effective solutions for generating unit needs.

Inspects and evaluates generating equipment and process conditions and prepares forward projections of operating and maintenance requirements to optimize production.

Awaits project oversight duties, ensuring that generation projects are functional, meet intended design criteria, and are completed on schedule and within budget.

Provides outage and routine maintenance support as needed, including planning, budgeting, and business‑case development, parts/service, and procurement recommendations related to major plant equipment, protective schemes, and control systems.

Interacts with other subject‑matter experts and cross‑functional organizations to support various corporate initiatives.

Leads root‑cause analysis for any incident that impacts generation facilities.

Coordinates with all levels of management to gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations in support of electrical planning and generation technical operational and financial missions.

Develops presentations for senior management and recommends and implements changes for best practices.

Ensures compliance with all relevant policies, codes, and regulations.

THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

PE license or a minimum of five (5) applicable years of practice as a professional engineer.

Four (4) years of related experience in power generation, transmission, and/or distribution.

Extensive knowledge of major power plant components, controls, protection systems, root‑cause analysis, and risk analysis.

Leadership experience in troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis of technical issues.

Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills.

Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Self‑starter capable of making decisions and taking necessary actions without specific direction.

Effective time‑management and organizational skills with strong multi‑tasking capabilities and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team.

Valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

THE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

May be required to stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs. Work may involve heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working off platforms.

Requires vision for detailed tasks and hearing to detect plant alarms and receive instructions.

Must be able to travel up to 20 %.

Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, masks, safety vests, gloves, and steel‑toe boots.

THE WORK ENVIRONMENT The position is performed in a smoke‑and‑vaping‑free office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as a laptop, phone, and scanner. Job sites contain light to heavy equipment, vehicles, and tools. Noise levels are moderate to high.
