Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (2390) – Department of Public Health
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, perform cleaning and sterilization duties in the Sterile Processing and Distribution Department of a hospital or other medical service facility.
Responsibilities
Disassemble, inspect, prepare, and decontaminate instruments, equipment, supplies, and materials in accordance with aseptic technique.
Assemble sterilization linen and instrument packs, trays, and other items for operating rooms and other hospital areas; inspect for size, weight, density, and wrapping.
Wrap, mark, date, label, inspect, rotate equipment and supplies; sort, repair, and fold surgical linen and other special surgical items.
Operate autoclaves, steam and gas sterilizers, conduct spore tests, maintain related records, and arrange repairs with the Senior Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician as needed.
Stock shelves, maintain inventory levels, identify patient chargeable items, and verify charging procedures.
Dispense and distribute equipment, supplies, and materials to patient‑care units, clinics, and services; manage distribution carts and recycle used non‑disposable items.
Advise hospital staff on equipment and supplies; suggest substitutes during shortages.
Maintain clean and orderly work areas, including daily and periodic cleanliness checks of sterilizers.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Central Service Certificate or Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician Certificate issued by:
Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) formerly International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).
Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD).
