Habitat & Access Specialist 2025-03021

GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a Habitat and Access Specialist for a nine‑month position based in Lovell, Wyoming. This role involves a variety of land management tasks aimed at the development and maintenance of Wildlife Habitat Management Areas (WHMAs) and Public Access Areas (PAAs). Responsibilities include improving wildlife habitats, overseeing land use, managing public access, and monitoring environmental conditions. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to wildlife conservation and sustainable land management while working in a dynamic outdoor environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Irrigation maintenance – pivot, flood, and gated pipe
Fence construction and maintenance – wildlife, elk fence, stackyards, and stock fence
Operation and maintenance of farm equipment (tractors, skid steers, backhoes)
Knowledge and experience in farming
Weed identification
Wetland management
WHMA and PAA maintenance (roads, parking areas, boat ramps, etc.)
ATV/UTV operation and maintenance
Operation of power tools, 4x4 pickups, and trailers
Work on other projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERENCES
Preference may be given to those with a farm or ranch background or experience related to range management, fish and wildlife resource management, habitat development, or college coursework toward a degree in range, fish, or wildlife management.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge
Knowledge and experience in farming and irrigation
Knowledge of wildlife management, natural resource management, range management, wetland management, and habitat management
Skill in organizing, planning, prioritizing, and managing time
Ability to listen, be a team player, and communicate with other employees and the public
Ability to work alone and exercise independent judgment
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Weekend work required
May require extended stays in campers
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, often independently
NOTES
FLSA: Non‑exempt

Position will be located in Lovell, WY (Yellowtail WHMA) 3/1/2026 thru 11/30/2026 and will have housing (cabin or camper) provided.
Uniform, rain gear, and other necessary gear will be provided when in the field.
