Principal Engineer, Controls Hardware
Beehive Industries is dedicated to Powering American Defense by revolutionizing the design, development, and delivery of jet propulsion systems to support the warfighter. Founded in 2020, Beehive is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, with facilities in Knoxville, Tennessee; Loveland, Ohio; and Mount Vernon, Ohio. This role can be located at our Englewood or Loveland facility.
Role Overview We are looking for an energetic and driven Principal Engineer, Controls Hardware to specify, develop, integrate, and test gas turbine engine control system sensors, actuators, and accessories. This position partners with cross‑functional leadership daily to facilitate development and delivery of the overall engine control system.
What You’ll Do
Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of engine control hardware—including setting requirements, designing actuators and pumps, integrating with software, predicting and simulating performance, and formally issuing the design.
Design, procure, and validate electronic engine control (EEC) and full authority digital engine control (FADEC) systems, along with sensors, fuel systems, lube components, and auxiliary systems. Lead software and hardware in the loop simulator design, commissioning, and integration testing, and integrate models to predict and validate engine performance.
Lead engine system or component test programs from a controls hardware perspective, setting objectives, instrumentation, test data requirements, and validation plans.
Serve as the engine control hardware subject matter expert, ensuring overall design meet requirements and coordinating with performance, operability, transient, mechanical, aero, additive manufacturing, materials, and analysis teams.
Lead design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines in performance, controls, stress, life, additive manufacturing, materials, and system analysis.
Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
Participate in R&D of additive design technologies and methodologies, advising on product design improvements through additive manufacturing.
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated in line with engineering best practices.
You Have
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
At least 12+ years of experience in engine control systems.
Strong understanding of engine control tools (e.g., MATLAB).
Experience with additive manufacturing technologies and design for additive manufacturing principles.
Passion for additive technology and willingness to surpass current design limits.
Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Demonstrated problem‑solving ability with strong program leadership and execution skills.
Proven self‑starter and quick learner capable of working in fast‑paced cross‑functional teams.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance. U.S. Citizenship required.
