About the Role
Our client is seeking a hands‑on, experienced HR leader to serve as Director of Human Resources for a growing, operations‑driven organization. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on‑site, working directly with leaders and employees both union and non‑union, and actively managing HR activity across multiple locations. Position Overview The Director of Human Resources is a working HR leader who partners closely with area and regional leadership while remaining directly involved in daily HR operations. This role supports multi‑site operations and is responsible for executing HR programs, resolving employee relations matters, and ensuring consistent application of policies and practices across locations.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the primary, on‑site HR resource for area and regional leadership, managers, and employees
Align HR practices with operational needs to support productivity, engagement, and retention
Provide hands‑on support across all core HR functions, including employee relations, performance management, talent development, and policy administration
Lead investigations into employee relations issues, recommending and implementing appropriate corrective actions in partnership with leadership and legal
Support workforce planning, restructuring, and change initiatives through direct involvement and on‑the‑ground execution
Implement HR programs, policy updates, and organizational changes across multiple sites, ensuring understanding and compliance
Coach managers on performance issues, employee engagement, and day‑to‑day people management
Partner closely with legal, operations, talent management, and communications teams to address real‑time workforce needs
Serve as a point of contact for regulatory agencies and external counsel as needed
Support and execute employee engagement initiatives, including survey follow‑up and action planning
Spend regular time in office, field, and warehouse environments to remain visible, accessible, and informed
Travel up to 25% to support local sites and operational needs
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience with significant hands‑on involvement in employee and labor relations
Experience supporting operations‑focused, multi‑site environments
Experience working in a union environment
Strong practical knowledge of HR policies, employment law, and employee relations best practices
Proven ability to work directly with managers and employees to resolve issues effectively
Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Willingness to travel approximately 25%
Preferred Qualifications
HR certification (PHR or SPHR preferred)
Experience in labor‑intensive industries such as distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or operations
Background managing high‑volume employee relations in fast‑paced, structured environments
Previous experience supporting regional or multi‑site operations
