Job Summary The MSW (CSW II) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CSW III) provides psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, therapeutic interventions consultation, education, community linkages and supportive services for Heart/VAD (Ventricular Assistive Device) transplant patients and families. The CSW II/III coordinates resources and services in response to patients’ psychosocial needs throughout the inpatient and outpatient continuum. The LCSW has advance knowledge and skills in clinical social work and is distinguished from the MSW by leadership activities in the department, including participation in advanced program planning, provision of educational programs, clinical supervision and consultation to the clinical team. The CSW II/III provides age‑appropriate assessments, interpretation of data, and delivery of interventions for the Heart/VAD Transplant program and demonstrates the ability to work with any patient regardless of race, gender, religious affiliation, cultural beliefs, lifestyle, disease process or treatment plan.

Salary Range : $45.20 - $78.06 per hour. Final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Placement within the salary range depends on experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement will follow the collective bargaining agreement.

Department Description Dealing with an illness can be a very difficult time for patients and their loved ones. At UCSF Health, experienced and sensitive social workers in our Department of Social Work are available to assist patients and their families cope with the many psychological and social issues that may arise when facing illness, hospitalization and medical treatment. Our social workers act as patient advocates by serving as counselors, helping to find resources, and solving problems. Any concerns related to the psychological, practical, and social well‑being of each patient or their loved ones may be discussed openly with our social workers.
Required Qualifications
Masters degree from a CSWE accredited school of Social Work.
Current California State License of Clinical Social Work in good standing (CSW III Only).
Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Demonstrates resourcefulness, effective written and oral communication, diplomacy, and organizational and analytic skills.
Self‑directed, assertive and creative in problem solving, systems planning and patient care management in a high‑volume work environment.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
Basic telephone, and computer skills including the use of the internet.
This position requires the flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a healthcare setting, including out‑patient, in‑patient and/or transplantation.
License/Certification
Current California State License of Clinical Social Work in good standing (CSW III Only).
