Job Description ECS is seeking a

Cloud Engineer

to work in our

Arlington, VA

office /

remote . The Cloud Engineer will play a critical role in supporting a federal IT modernization initiative by designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure solutions. This position requires working within a highly regulated environment while driving innovation and efficiency through cloud adoption. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to migrate legacy systems, implement cloud-native solutions, and ensure compliance with federal security standards and regulations.

Working as part of a dynamic modernization program, the Cloud Engineer will contribute to transforming government operations through scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud technologies. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on citizen services while advancing cloud engineering expertise in the federal sector.

Responsibilities Infrastructure Design & Implementation

Design and implement scalable cloud architectures using AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or other FedRAMP-authorized cloud platforms

Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates

Migrate legacy on-premises systems to cloud environments while maintaining operational continuity

Configure and manage virtual networks, load balancers, storage solutions, and compute resources

Security & Compliance

Implement cloud security best practices in accordance with NIST frameworks, FISMA requirements, and agency-specific security controls

Configure and maintain security groups, network access control lists, identity and access management (IAM) policies

Support Authority to Operate (ATO) processes and maintain continuous monitoring capabilities

Ensure compliance with FedRAMP, FIPS 140-2, and other federal security standards

Operations & Monitoring

Implement automated monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for cloud infrastructure

Perform capacity planning and cost optimization analysis

Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans

Support 24/7 operations through on-call rotation and incident response procedures

Create and maintain technical documentation and standard operating procedures

Collaboration & Innovation

Partner with application development teams to optimize cloud resource utilization

Participate in architecture review boards and technical design sessions

Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives

Research and evaluate emerging cloud technologies for potential adoption

Salary Range: $150,000 – $180,000

General Description of Benefits Required Skills

U.S. Citizenship

Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability determination

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience

7 years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure management, or related technical roles

Hands‑on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)

Desired Skills

Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates, Pulumi)

Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)

Knowledge of networking concepts including VPNs, firewalls, load balancing, and DNS

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

Understanding of federal IT security frameworks (NIST 800-53, FISMA, FedRAMP)

Current federal government or contractor experience supporting federal agencies

Professional cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect)

Experience with FedRAMP-authorized cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government)

Security certifications such as Security, CISSP, or CCSP

Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)

Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash)

Knowledge of database technologies and data migration strategies

Experience with agile development methodologies

Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams

Adaptability to rapidly changing technology landscapes

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
