Job Description Job Title: Project Engineer – HVAC & Building Systems Location: Detroit, MI (On?site) Pay Rate: $45.67/hr Contract: Long?term contract Worksite: Our client’s Walker Cisler Building – 660 Plaza Drive, Detroit, MI 48226 About the Role Our client is seeking an experienced Project Engineer specializing in HVAC engineering, design, and building automation systems. In this role, you will independently lead and support HVAC project planning, scoping, design engineering, and implementation across a diverse building portfolio. The ideal candidate brings deep mechanical engineering expertise, strong project leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously—ranging from tens of thousands to up to $5M in capital scope. Key Responsibilities Lead engineering efforts for HVAC design and system implementation. Serve as the primary technical liaison to troubleshoot and resolve engineering design challenges. Initiate and develop project scope, preliminary designs, engineering schedules, and cost estimates. Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments for HVAC engineering work. Oversee scoping meetings, chair design status updates, and ensure alignment with leadership. Monitor engineering costs and design schedule progress to ensure on?time, on?budget delivery. Collaborate with Project Managers on bid package development and contractor evaluations. Support Facilities Operations teams in troubleshooting existing HVAC and building automation systems. Update HVAC and Building Automation System (BAS) engineering standards. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering 10+ years of relevant experience in HVAC engineering, design, or building systems project work Preferred Qualifications Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), including design, engineering, and controls applications Hands?on experience with Niagara Tridium BAS Background using BIM tools, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), and/or Revit PMP certification (PMI) Demonstrated proficiency with HVAC controls design Additional Competencies Strong project planning, implementation, and continuous improvement capabilities Ability to manage and prioritize multiple high?visibility projects simultaneously Skilled at running efficient, organized meetings and guiding teams toward outcomes High adaptability to shifting priorities and evolving project requirements Calm, professional demeanor under pressure with strong interpersonal communication skills Proven ability to introduce new ideas and challenge outdated approaches Broad understanding of building HVAC and control systems Advanced analytical and project management abilities Strong consulting and influencing skills to support organizational decision?making Work Schedule Standard 40?hour workweek Monday–Friday On?site at the Walker Cisler Building Why Apply?
