The Non‑Certified Coder is responsible for ensuring that charges are assessed and entered in compliance with applicable coding regulations, standards, policies and guidelines established by CMS and third‑party payers. This requires a thorough understanding of payer edits, medical necessity and bundle rules. The coder also assists provider inquiries and provides feedback on documentation quality. Coders may work remotely from home; appropriate internet connectivity and a HIPAA‑compliant workspace are required.
Education & Certification
High School diploma or GED required.
Formal coder training strongly preferred.
CPC certification or similar preferred; specialized certification desirable.
Experience & Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of medical coding experience required.
Previous experience with Electronic Medical Records and billing systems required.
Procedure coding experience preferred; advanced education may substitute some experience.
Knowledge of ICD‑10 and CPT coding required.
Ability to examine clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Strong teamwork, initiative, dependability and promptness.
Additional Skills
Medical billing and patient accounting expertise.
Knowledge of clinic operating policies and procedures.
Understanding of CMS regulations and third‑party payer policies on coverage, medical necessity and bundling.
Ability to prepare records per detailed instructions.
