is responsible for managing and executing complex tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities for a U.S.-based 501(c)(6) membership organization, international affiliates, domestic and foreign for-profit subsidiaries. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and international tax regulations and delivers actionable solutions that support global business objectives.

Responsibilities

Assist in preparation of IRS Form 990 submissions for SHRM’s 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) entities, various state sales tax submissions, business license renewals, and annual reports.

Coordinate filing deadlines and workpapers with external tax advisors.

Prepare corporate and international tax returns.

Assist with preparation of Charitable Solicitation Registrations.

Prepare tax forecasting and accruals; record monthly entries.

Research various state business compliance requirements.

Reconcile General Ledger activity related to tax positions.

Maintain tax policies and procedures; identify and implement recommendations for improvements.

Ensure global indirect tax compliance (VAT, GST, sales/use tax).

Monitor developments in domestic and international tax law and assess their impact on the organization.

Coordinate with internal and external legal counsel, auditors, and tax advisors as needed.

Manage tax audits and inquiries from regulatory agencies.

Ensure compliance with transfer pricing documentation requirements.

Education & Experience Requirements Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

Master’s degree in Taxation, Accounting, or Business Administration preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in tax accounting, including nonprofit and multinational organizational structures.

Proven expertise in U.S. federal, state, and international tax compliance and reporting.

Prior experience preparing or overseeing IRS Form 990 and related nonprofit filings.

Strong background in transfer pricing, tax forecasting, and indirect tax compliance (VAT, GST, sales/use).

Experience managing relationships with external auditors, advisors, and tax authorities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and improve overall work quality.

In-depth knowledge of U.S. tax law, international tax principles, and nonprofit regulations.

Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into actionable business insights.

Excellent organizational and project management skills with high attention to detail.

Proficiency in financial systems, tax software, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with global partners.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.

High integrity, professional judgment, and commitment to organizational compliance and ethics.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and using office equipment.

Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds as needed.

Clear verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues and stakeholders.

Work Environment This is a hybrid position with Tuesday through Thursday in‑office and Monday and Friday remote. Employees must be available during standard business hours, with core hours beginning between 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM and concluding between 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

Salary & Benefits The hiring range for this position is $100,000 to $125,000 per year.
