About the Role U.S. Pipe is seeking a Plant Buyer to support our plant in Bessemer, Alabama. The role involves purchasing materials, supplies, and services in accordance with company procedures and supporting plant operations.
Responsibilities
Examine purchase requests and determine cost‑effective methods.
Identify and select vendors, negotiating best price and ensuring quantity, quality, and delivery requirements.
Create and issue purchase orders.
Track open purchase orders, coordinate delivery, and resolve discrepancies.
Maintain a vetted vendor list and inventory management process for raw materials.
Coordinate with Accounts Payable, generate reporting, and support cost‑saving initiatives.
Return and repair materials, evaluate repair vs replace.
Communicate purchasing procedures and provide assistance to plant personnel.
Serve as backup for stores and purchasing personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; 3–5 years of purchasing experience in manufacturing.
Knowledge of general production manufacturing and inventory management practices.
Familiarity with materials used in ductile iron pipe manufacturing.
Experience with ERP systems and inventory management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong verbal and written communication skills.
Organized, detail‑oriented, safety‑conscious, self‑motivated team player.
Environment
Work in an office setting with occasional plant travel; may be exposed to foundry operations.
Possible conditions: extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, dust, fumes, metallic particles.
Tasks: standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, speaking, seeing, hearing, sitting.
