Position Overview: The Planner/Scheduler IV is the senior-level role within the Project Controls Scheduling/Planning team. This position is responsible for independently developing, detailing, updating, and maintaining project schedules for complex engineering and construction projects, primarily within the oil & gas sector. The role involves coordinating with cross-functional teams, integrating cost and schedule, and ensuring full alignment with company project controls policies and procedures.
This senior scheduler contributes to project execution strategy, supports earned value management (EVM), develops "what-if" scenarios, and provides schedule risk insights to Project Managers and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, detail, maintain, and manage master project schedules covering planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout phases.
Ensure all schedules adhere to company scheduling standards, policies, and systems.
Maintain baseline schedules, incorporate approved changes, and perform rolling-wave planning.
Update schedules from physical progress inputs (Field Controls Analyst, CAMs, vendor updates, and progress reporting).
Perform schedule analysis, identify critical paths, logic issues, risks, and impacts to the baseline.
Collaborate closely with the Cost Controller to cost-load detailed schedules.
Develop schedule-sourced time-phased plans, earned value metrics, and forecasts.
Establish rules of credit for progress measurement and earned value reporting.
Produce weekly/monthly schedule reports, dashboards, variance analysis, and trend identification.
Interpret schedule metrics and provide risk assessments and recommended actions to the Project Manager.
Participate in meetings to stay updated on scope, schedule, cost, and progress changes.
Support change management by integrating approved changes into baseline and forecast.
Interface with Project Managers, Control Account Managers, Engineering, Land/ROW, Supply Chain, Construction, and Commissioning teams.
Work with vendor and subcontractor schedulers to ensure schedule alignment and compatibility with company standards.
Support internal and external activities including consultants, partners, and customers.
Provide guidance and scheduling expertise to junior/intermediate schedulers.
Develop "what-if" scenarios, logic-driven alternatives, and critical path evaluations.
Provide logistics and planning recommendations to optimize schedule performance.
Support system enhancement testing and recommend process improvements.
Acts as primary scheduler for assigned complex, multi-scope capital projects.
Independently identifies tasks and executes them with minimal supervision.
Uses professional judgment to resolve scheduling issues and propose feasible solutions.
Technical recommendations are accepted as accurate and reliable by leadership.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Accounting, or related discipline.
10+ years of planning/scheduling experience in engineering & construction projects.
5+ years’ experience in Oil & Gas large complex capital projects (Owner-side preferred).
Strong experience with MS Project, MS Timeline Pro, SharePoint, and advanced Excel.
Strong understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) and project controls principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to independently manage workload in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and self-driven.
Ability to engage and build relationships with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
Ability to explain technical scheduling concepts to non-technical audience.
Working Conditions:
Office-based hybrid role (Edina or Duluth).
Occasional overnight travel up to 10%.
