Part-Time Parks Maintenance Worker

Under general supervision, the Parks Maintenance Worker (Part-Time) performs a variety of Duties related to the upkeep and improvement of City parks, athletic fields, splash pads, and facilities. This position supports maintenance operations and assists with landscaping, equipment upkeep, and facility cleanliness. Tasks may vary based on the needs of the park and assigned team.

Grounds and Facility Maintenance
Mows, trims, and edges grass areas at parks and athletic fields using various types of equipment (Zero Turn, Tri-deck, etc.).
Blows off sidewalks and walkways and removes trash and debris from public areas.
Cleans and sanitizes park and athletic field restrooms, including hosing down surfaces, sweeping cobwebs, and restocking soap and paper products.
Empties trash receptacles and replaces liners throughout assigned areas.
Plants, transplants, and maintains trees, flowers, shrubs, and other park vegetation.
Performs basic maintenance for athletic fields, including raking, marking chalk lines, setting string lines, Verti cutting, leveling, water drainage, and other field preparation tasks.
Cleans playgrounds and ensures safety through inspections and maintenance.
Pressure washes playgrounds, bleachers, and public spaces and assists in graffiti removal.
Maintains duck pond areas as assigned.
Supports recreational events through setup, maintenance, and cleanup.
Equipment and Irrigation Maintenance
Operates, maintains, and cleans work vehicles, trailers, and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Inspect tools and machinery, ensuring proper fluids and grease levels are maintained.
Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains sprinkler and irrigation systems, adjusting timing controls and replacing parts as needed.
Conducts daily splash pad maintenance, including performing chemical readings, checking for leaks, replacing motors, maintaining PVC piping, and performing backwashing as needed.
Assists with repairs and replacements of park features and facilities, including basketball courts, fencing, lighting, sod, dirt work, and control posts.
Safety and Compliance
Follows all applicable local, state, and federal laws, codes, and regulations.
Adheres to workplace safety policies and ensures safe use, handling, and storage of chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides.
Reports hazards, maintenance issues, or safety concerns promptly to supervisors.
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with departmental safety standards and best practices.
Teamwork and Customer Service
Assists team members with troubleshooting mechanical or operational issues.
Works collaboratively within assigned crews and supports department goals.
Maintain positive, professional communication with colleagues and the public.
Participates in training programs and certifications to enhance skills and service delivery.
Performs other related duties as assigned to meet departmental or operational needs.
Work is performed primarily outdoors across City parks and recreation facilities. Duties require frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous materials, tools, and equipment. The position requires standing, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, lifting, and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasional exposure to infectious materials may occur during cleaning and maintenance tasks.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred.
One (1) to two (2) years of experience in landscaping, park, or facility maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess a valid Class C Driver’s License; Class B License may be required depending on assignment.
TDA License, Certified Pool Operator, Groundskeeper University Certification, Heavey Equipment Certification are highly recommended (must be obtained within one year of hire if required).
