Grand Canyon University Public Safety Dispatcher Grand Canyon University, a regionally accredited private Christian university in Phoenix, Arizona, seeks a full‑time dispatcher for its Public Safety Department. The dispatcher will operate the communications center, handle emergency and non‑emergency calls, monitor alarm and access control systems, and coordinate police and EMS dispatch.

What you will do

Receive, record and relay information for service by telephone and two‑way radio in CAD.

Record detailed information in logs as required and maintain officer assignments, dispatching officers based on location to deter potential criminal activity.

Dispatch requested calls for service during the tour of duty, including prevention and suppression of crime, protection of life and property, apprehension and protection of offenders, preservation of peace and maintenance of order, and enforcement of state statutes, university and housing regulations.

Check that information for field officers is available so only authorized persons are admitted to buildings, and monitor controlled access areas.

Document disturbances and incidents, communicate with local law‑enforcement during emergencies, and cooperate with campus staff and external agencies in investigations.

What you will need

High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate’s degree in criminal justice, police science, public administration, political science or similar discipline preferred.

Experience in a 911/dispatch center preferred.

Typing speed of 40 WPM preferred.

Experience with Computer Aided Dispatch, records management systems, and criminal justice technology.

High ethical standards and adherence to university policies and legal regulations.

Good communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in Spanish or another non‑English language, including American Sign Language, is helpful.

Familiarity with information systems terminals, computerized alarm and access control systems.

Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.

Ability to meet physical requirements and daily responsibilities.

Excellent judgment and conflict resolution/mediation skills.

Certifications in CPR, First Aid and First Responder preferred.

Valid Arizona driver’s license in good standing; must be insurable.

Must successfully pass a drug test.

Provide a positive example to students by supporting the university’s doctrinal and ethical statements.
