Client Services Assistant
Location: Norfolk, VA.
Job Posting Expires : 12/31/2025.
Salary : $50,000 to $60,000 per year.
Type : Full Time.

Responsibilities
Accept applications and schedule interviews.
Verify accuracy of application information and research discrepancies.
Update and maintain client application records.
Perform background and reference checks of applicants.
Take applications for yearly re‑examination of clients.
Compute rents based on financial information using housing guidelines.
Prepare contracts, leases, correspondence, and communication with landlords, tenants, and program stakeholders.
Greet and offer assistance to individuals in person, by phone, and via email.
Provide information on eligibility status and required policies and procedures.
Input information and data into computer systems.
Review tenant eligibility to remain on a specific housing program.
Send inquiries for required information to tenants.
Document ongoing interactions with clients to ensure service continuity.
Maintain files and waiting lists, recording time/date for monthly actions.
Perform general clerical work including detailed eligibility record maintenance.
Possess knowledge of programs offered through Norfolk Housing Agency and related resources.
Attend meetings and training programs; some training requires out‑of‑town travel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Customer service and public relations methods and techniques.
Business letter writing and basic principles of administrative research and report preparation.
Principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Basic mathematical principles.
Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and software applications; basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Effective customer service techniques.
High level of verbal and written communication.
Ability to handle frequent interruptions and public contact by phone, email, or in person.
Accuracy in documenting and processing information.
Capacity to perform responsible office assistant duties and support other staff and programs.
Ability to utilize a variety of computer programs related to city business.
Plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
Enter data at a required speed.
Establish and maintain records and reports.
Deal constructively and patiently with conflict.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Maintain effective working relationships with all parties involved.
