General Description
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of a variety of infrastructure in the Town of Dumfries, VA. Duties vary by department and/or division; performs related duties, as assigned. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Essential Functions
Clean and maintain Town property, equipment, and facilities. Incumbents may perform basic maintenance and cleaning. Provide assistance to those performing more complex tasks.
Operate a variety of motorized equipment and tools. Maintain town vehicles – inspections, oil changes, tires, etc.
Maintain and repair Town streets, landscapes, and sidewalks, small pothole repair. Clear ditches, clean sewers, storm drains and catch basins to prevent flooding and pollution.
Repair and replace street signs, maintain Town sidewalks, and streets. Trim and/or remove trees, weeds, and trash; may be assigned to apply herbicides and pesticides. Provide landscaping – grass cutting, weed whacking, tree pruning.
Remove litter and roadway debris to maintain appearance of the Town.
Move, load/unload, assemble/disassemble, and set up furniture; assist in Town event set up and take down as needed.
Shovel snow or operate snow removal equipment to maintain streets, parking lots, and sidewalks.
Perform custodial duties for Town facilities. Maintain Town maintenance shop.
Perform the cleaning and maintenance of parks and facilities – kitchens and bathrooms. Inspect playgrounds and make repairs. Paint buildings, benches, picnic tables, and other park structures.
