The purpose of this position is to assist in maintaining the safety of the City’s streets by operating heavy equipment, making and installing street signs, sealing cracks, filling potholes, and pouring concrete curbs. Other duties may include directing traffic, ensuring worksite safety, maintaining equipment, documenting work, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position may provide direction to other employees.

Essential Functions The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbents may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional position-specific duties.

Performs maintenance on the City's streets and roadways by operating heavy equipment and machinery such as trucks, AMZ, and roller; filling potholes with asphalt; sealing cracks; utilizing roller and asphalt distribution; pouring concrete for curbs; and laying asphalt.

Ensures roadway safety by making traffic and street signs, locating designated area for City signs, preparing ground, and installing street signs with equipment such as compressors and jackhammers.

Maintains City’s heavy equipment and machinery through preventative maintenance, repairs, and part replacement.

Ensures safety of maintenance crew, citizens, and work sites by performing traffic control operations, placing cones, and directing traffic.

Completes administrative duties by documenting maintenance performed and reporting street maintenance as necessary.

Job Requirements Education & Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

High School diploma or equivalent plus one (1) year of relevant work experience.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certification and Other Requirements

Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License is required, with tanker endorsement preferred or the ability to obtain tanker endorsement within one (1) year from date of hire.

Supplemental Information Knowledge Of:

Street maintenance methods and procedures (e.g., pothole repair, crack sealing, curb pouring).

Operation and safety practices for heavy equipment (trucks, AMZ, roller, jackhammer, compressors, etc.).

Traffic control regulations and procedures.

Materials used in street construction and repair (asphalt, concrete, signage materials).

Preventative maintenance and basic mechanical repair techniques.

Workplace safety standards and hazard recognition.

City street layouts and signage placement standards.

Documentation and reporting protocols.

Skilled In:

Operating heavy machinery and tools safely and efficiently.

Pour and finish concrete for curbs and street repairs.

Install, repair, and maintain traffic and street signs.

Perform routine equipment inspections and basic repairs.

Implement traffic control and worksite safety procedures.

Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance records.

Work collaboratively with a crew and interact professionally with the public.

Physical Demands / Work Environment Ability to work in the field, outdoors, in extreme weather conditions, and around mechanical, electrical, fire, and respiratory hazards.

Ability to operate heavy equipment and hand and power tools.

Ability to attend events outside of regular business hours.

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods.

Ability to push, pull, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, twist, climb, and balance frequently.

Ability to lift 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.

Ability to operate city or personal vehicle for business purposes.
