The City of Hampton is seeking a highly skilled Traffic Maintenance professional to perform advanced traffic maintenance work involving traffic signs, barriers, guardrails, pavement markings, and specialized equipment operation while leading and directing a field crew.

Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Considerable experience in traffic operations; Thermo-Plastic pavement markings and equipment required; Strong working knowledge of the MUTCD Manual and the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual; considerable knowledge of hand tools, carpentry, mechanics or painting.
Candidate must have the ability to be IMSA Signs and Marking certified and do so within 1 year of hire date; work zone certified within 6 months of hire date. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B within 180 days of employment.
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and the City’s current substance abuse policy.
Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
Frequent contact with the general public and other city employees.
May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include nights, weekends and holidays.
Work conditions can be disagreeable and potentially dangerous.
The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
