ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Definition:
Under general supervision of Street Supervisor, operates trucks and other general mobile equipment to transport material and personnel. Participates in all activities relating to maintenance, repair and construction of streets, drainage, and alley operations. Does other related work as required or assigned.
Drives dump truck and pick-up truck. Will load and unload dirt, sand, gravel, caliche, asphalt, brush, and construction material.
Use of radio, mobile phones, and writing reports.
Mows right of ways and easements, picks up and delivers parts and supplies.
Will use a variety of hand and power tools and will operate complex machinery and/or equipment for training or relief purposes.
Responsible for maintenance and minor repair of equipment.
Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly, wears protective equipment when needed.
Works in trenches and confined spaces: serves on standby crew for after hour emergency work as required, does minor carpentry work, painting and concrete work.
Works with other departments and does other duties as required. Communicates with employees and supervisors.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of city, state, federal regulations pertaining to the operation of equipment in public spaces. Proper techniques and uses of a variety of hand tools and power tools.
Knowledge of mechanical, proper care and skillful/safe operation of heavy equipment.
Ability to operate a variety of motorized equipment; learn techniques of operation of unfamiliar equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Valid Commercial Driver’s License
Two (2) years’ experience driving back hoe, dump truck, or similar trucks.

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Possession of Valid Texas Driver’s License
Satisfactory Driving Record
Proof of eligibility to legally work in the U.S.

All City employees are required in the course and scope of their employment to provide services for the benefit of the public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Kingsville citizens. City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, and/or immediately after an emergency in accordance with the City of Kingsville Emergency Services Policy No. 881 effective August 28, 2006

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds; push, pull and/or drag up to 150 pounds of equipment and/or materials; climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoops, stands, sits, and bends when driving or maintaining equipment; hear and see clearly when working around equipment or in traffic. Works outdoors in extreme temperatures and inclement weather with some exposure to dust, fumes, noise, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards while using proper safety precautions.
