Community and Family Resources is seeking a Prevention Specialist to provide prevention and educational services in Webster City and surrounding areas. If you are interested in working in your community to reduce the harms of substance misuse, this position may be a great fit for you!
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Develop service goals and objectives in conjunction with prevention team and prevention supervisor relative to specific funding source(s).
Provide professional training to the public, community coalitions, area agencies, support groups, and schools in regard to prevention strategies. This includes training teachers, employers, human service personnel, and community members in prevention strategies which may be used to make changes in community attitudes and norms.
Assist community coalitions in making environmental changes in their communities. This includes training coalition members on recruitment and community advocacy in regards to alcohol and drug abuse, tobacco use, and gambling.
Maintain public relations between the agency prevention project and community resources.
Provide group presentations in schools, industry, community groups and human services and other appropriate groups in the area of substance abuse, tobacco, and gambling.
Provide support, consultation, reinforcement and coordination to area communities, task forces, and agencies in an effort to unite and coordinate all funded programming requirements.
Recruit and coordinate qualified volunteers and coalition members.
Keep informed regarding new information relevant to problem gambling and substance abuse prevention.
Completed in a timely manner as directed by the Prevention Supervisor.
Schedule
Type: Full-time or Part-Time
Hours:
Full-time = 40 hours each week, generally Monday-Friday, 8a-4:30p, and occasional evenings and weekends.
Part-time = Approximately 20 hours each week, can be flexible but requires some occasional evenings and weekends for programming purposes.
Education And Experience Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Education, Community Health, Human Services, or related field is required.
Two years work experience in education, training, public relations, or community activism OR three years work experience in a human service agency is preferred.
Must be a Certified Prevention Specialist or be able to obtain certification within 18 months from date of hire.
