Position Purpose The Marketing & Communications Specialist advances the mission of the El Paso Center for Diabetes (EPCD) by designing, executing, and evaluating strategic marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives. The Specialist strengthens brand visibility, accelerates patient and community engagement, leads diabetes awareness campaigns, and supports donor development. The Specialist also serves as the communications lead for the regional Diabetes Alliance and supports the “Diabetes Now What” health communications campaign in partnership with the Paso del Norte Health Foundation.
I. Strategic Marketing & Communication Leadership
Lead the development and execution of EPCD’s annual marketing and communication strategy.
Serve as the communications lead for the Diabetes Alliance, a partnership with the Paso del Norte Health Foundation.
Support and help execute the “Diabetes Now What” regional health communications campaign.
Lead communication strategy meetings with staff, partners, and the Diabetes Advisory Group.
Provide strategic communication reports to the CEO/COO and Board of Directors.
Monitor marketing, social, and community trends to enhance communication efforts.
Oversee EPCD branding and ensure consistent, high-quality messaging.
Manage and optimize digital marketing efforts across all platforms.
Measure and report analytics for EPCD and the Diabetes Now What campaign.
Manage social media advertising, Google Ads, and boosted content.
Conduct regular SEO/SEM audits to improve online performance.
Maintain editorial calendars for all digital channels.
III. Creative Production & Content Development
Produce written, graphic, and video content with minimal supervision.
Create materials for the Diabetes Now What campaign including videos, social animations, print collateral, and PSAs.
Serve as EPCD’s photographer/videographer and maintain media libraries.
Develop scripts, creative briefs, newsletters, and collateral materials.
Oversee creative projects with vendors and external partners.
IV. Website Management
Lead design, updates, and management of EPCD’s website and diabetes campaign sites.
Ensure ADA compliance, SEO performance, and user-friendly navigation.
Post regular updates and manage forms, landing pages, and analytics.
V. Media Relations & Public Affairs
Maintain relationships with regional broadcast, print, and digital media.
Pitch stories, draft press releases, and prepare talking points.
Serve as spokesperson when assigned by the CEO/COO.
VI. Special Events & Public Relations
Lead all communication and marketing logistics for EPCD events.
Manage vendor coordination, registration, signage, collateral, and run‑of‑show.
Support major donor events, open houses, community events, and health fairs.
VII. Development & Donor Support
Lead marketing efforts for EPCD fundraising events and Giving Day.
Coordinate the annual donor appeal campaign.
Develop donor‑focused content such as impact summaries and recognition materials.
Co‑author communication‑related grant components and reports.
Promote online giving and donor pathways throughout communication efforts.
VIII. Internal & Cross‑Functional Leadership
Serve as lead staff for the Diabetes Alliance and manage the Alliance Communications Workgroup.
Support alignment of messaging across DSME, MNT, CHW, and administrative teams.
Support internal communication processes and staff updates.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Advanced skills in design, photography, and video editing.
Strong project and time management abilities.
Ability to simplify and communicate complex information.
Strong relationship‑building and media relations skills.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, website CMS platforms, social media tools, Microsoft Office, and analytics platforms.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, or related field
or
3–5 years of experience in marketing or communications.
Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or public health communication is a plus.
Experience leading campaigns, producing creative content, and managing websites required.
Experience with event planning and media relations required.
