Under general supervision, the Probation/Parole Manager oversees a moderate‑sized staff of probation/parole officers, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and providing leadership in a specialized caseload unit responsible for supervising sex offenders, historical offenders, and known sexually motivated offenders. The manager administers assessments, directs staff activities, and acts as liaison with courts, law enforcement, and community agencies to promote agency objectives.
Responsibilities
Audits staff casework for quality and adherence to policy and procedural standards.
Directs staff to request arrest warrants for non‑compliance as required.
Analyzes reports and takes action related to offenders under supervision.
Addresses public, offender, and staff complaints and grievances promptly and professionally.
Serves as liaison with judges, court personnel, law enforcement and other agencies.
Maintains a positive, respectful workplace with colleagues and offenders.
Exchanges information with law enforcement officers, district attorneys, state agencies, outside organizations, and community groups related to offenders.
Enforces departmental policy and procedure guidelines.
Qualifications and Eligibility
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and at least four years of full‑time professional experience in probation/parole, counseling, social work, investigative, or legal fields.
Full‑time relevant professional experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year‑for‑year basis.
Graduate coursework in social science, behavioral science, criminal justice, criminology, social work, and/or law may substitute for up to two years of required experience.
Special qualifications:
Ready to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons.
At least 18 years of age on the date of application.
U.S. citizen.
Good moral character as determined by investigation.
Complete criminal history disclosure form and agree to release all records involving criminal history.
Supply a fingerprint sample per Tennessee Bureau of Investigation requirements.
No felony or domestic assault convictions or dishonorable discharge from any U.S. armed force branch.
Pass a physical examination consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Pass a psychological evaluation consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Pass a pre‑employment drug screening.
Hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Upon appointment, successfully complete prescribed training at the Tennessee Correction Academy and required online training.
This position requires a criminal background check.
Additional Information Assignment differential: 8%. Motor Vehicle Records screening conducted prior to employment.
