Job Summary
This position offers an opportunity to support the execution of projects, change management and various other EHSS programs at Client headquarters in Thousand Oaks and other locations. The successful candidate is responsible for the coordination and advancement of existing and EHSS programs and initiatives and drive a safety culture excellence. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, creative, and professional individual with demonstrated ability to integrate safety and health requirements into the business and interact daily with area engineers, process specialists and process leaders.
Responsibilities
Review all new or proposed changes to processes, process equipment, materials or operations to determine all necessary EHSS requirements are addressed.
Act as primary EHSS representative to assign projects to provide EHS Safety Engineering formal review at Concept, Basis of Design, Detailed Design and other projects.
Stages as assigned
Regular assessments of process safety procedures, industrial safety practices, related equipment, training of operators, and other EHSS related items are also within scope.
Review and provide EHS input on typical project documents including process diagrams, P&ID’s, equipment specifications, design drawings etc.
Act as an SME and/or lead complex or particularly high hazard Risk Assessment using process hazard evaluation techniques such as What if, HAZOP, FMEA etc. to support site EHSS and Engineering deliverables.
Drive significant change and improvement through proactive process improvements and site support.
May implement and support various technical safety programs and other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge of key EHSS programs including, but not limited to, Machine Safety, Lock Out/Tag Out, Electrical Safety, Process Safety Management, Pressure Safety, etc.
Qualifications
Degree in safety, industrial hygiene, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, biology or other life science areas
Strong understanding of design, project engineering experience and risk assessment processes
Knowledge with regulations as they pertain to pharma/ biotech operations.
Applied knowledge and understanding of EHS and process safety practices, engineering principles, regulatory standards, and requirements in context of business activities.
Ability to take responsibility for several projects / initiatives at one time with an emphasis on quality and organization.
Demonstrated EHSS leadership supporting manufacturing or laboratory environments. Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and influence management.
7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry implementing industrial and safety programs
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Strong communication, technical writing and presentation skills, action oriented, self-starting, program development and project management
Strong leadership skills in order to influence leadership, and other stakeholders to achieve the highest safety engineering standards across the network.
Proficient in ability to learn various software systems developed for Amgen project related execution.
