Director of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness
The Director of Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness reports directly to the Executive Director of Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness (PSEP) and provides day‑to‑day supervision, oversight, and leadership for campus public safety and emergency preparedness. The Director works collaboratively with the Chancellor, other executive directors (Emergency Management & Continuity, Clery Compliance), and key campus stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Assist in recruitment, selection, retention, and development of campus Public Safety staff.
Provide direct supervision to campus Public Safety staff.
Work with the Executive Director of Emergency Management & Continuity to implement comprehensive emergency management and business continuity plans and practices on campus.
Plan, draft, and execute progressive Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program‑compliant drills and exercises with the Executive Director of Emergency Management & Continuity, Chancellor, and campus leadership.
Work with the Executive Director of Clery Compliance to ensure campus compliance with the Clery Act.
Collaborate with the Chancellor and the Executive Director of Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness to establish a threat‑ and risk‑based front‑line security staffing plan.
Implement physical security measures, including surveillance camera systems and electronic access control, in line with PSEP standards.
Lead PSEP during campus crisis or emergency and liaise with the Executive Director of Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness.
Meet regularly with the campus safety committee to identify and address safety concerns.
Act as a model for strong leadership, fostering a collaborative team culture that prioritizes student and employee satisfaction.
Assist in maintaining campus emergency notification systems.
Coordinate with facilities for events requiring public safety presence.
Meet regularly with the AWARE Team.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of related experience with progressive responsibility and supervision, preferably in post‑secondary education.
Demonstrated ability to resolve individual and group conflicts and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational, planning, evaluation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to partner effectively with colleagues both within and outside the organization.
Willingness and ability to travel within the state and occasionally out of state for professional development.
Commitment to promoting an inclusive environment where all individuals feel respected and valued.

SUPERVISION GIVEN: Law Enforcement Officers (Part‑Time)
Salary Range: $60,000‑65,000
