Assistant Professor – Fall 2026 The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at California State University Fullerton invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Chicana and Chicano Studies. The appointment will begin Fall 2026.

Position Overview We seek a specialist in the interdisciplinary study of Chicanx and Latinx visual culture and immigration. The successful candidate will:

teach introductory core and Ethnic Studies Requirement courses, as well as courses in their area(s) of specialization;

mentor students and serve on departmental and university‑wide committees;

produce scholarship and/or creative activity commensurate with departmental standing requirements for tenure;

balance teaching, research/creative work, and service.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, Chicana/o Studies, or a related field with a focus on visual culture and immigration (ABD candidates may apply if they can demonstrate completion by the appointment date).

Demonstrated or potential excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Commitment to working effectively with students from intersecting marginalized social groups.

A strong record of scholarly and/or creative accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment.

Experience collaborating with colleagues and communities.

Ability to balance teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to teach and build curriculum in lower and upper‑division courses focused on visual culture and immigration with an emphasis in Latinx and Central American Studies.

Evidence of effective use of various instructional methods and learning modalities.

Commitment to cocurricular activities and engagement with campus and regional communities.

Curriculum vitae (abbreviated) highlighting teaching, scholarly/creative activities, and service.

500‑word maximum teaching statement.

500‑word maximum research statement.

500‑word maximum service statement.

Statement of commitment to inclusive excellence (≤ 500 words).

Concrete examples of how you will support a diverse student population (e.g., embedded perspectives, service activities, mentoring, inclusive creative activities, syllabus of new course proposal).

One writing sample (or two dissertation chapters for ABD applicants).

Graduate transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable for initial review).

Letter from dissertation adviser for ABD candidates (progress to completion).

List of three references with contact information.

Finalists may be asked to submit additional materials and will need to provide three letters of recommendation.

Application Deadline All application materials must be received by January 5, 2026. The position will remain open until filled.

Compensation and Benefits The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 per month (12 monthly payments). The anticipated hiring range is $7,465 to $7,608 per month, commensurate with experience. Additional benefits include health, vision, and dental plans; spouse, domestic partner, and dependent fee waivers; campus childcare; and a defined‑benefit retirement plan through the state system.
