JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for the maintenance of the university’s telecommunication equipment, networks, and systems.

MAJOR DUTIES

Analyze and troubleshoot telecommunication issues.

Install and replace telecommunication equipment.

Repair and support telecommunication networks.

Work closely with the Service Desk, performing adds, moves, and changes related to the university telecommunication equipment.

Create and maintain system documentation for Voice Telesom and Emergency management.

Maintain and upkeep telecommunications closets.

Build, install, and maintain cable infrastructure and network hardware databases.

Respond to and resolve service disruptions.

Monitor and maintain Data Center environmental controls.

Maintain the IT infrastructure equipment database.

Inform Service Desk management and other team members about product changes for telecommunications peripheral equipment and update the technical rules used to assist with problems.

Support and contribute to a collaborative customer service team environment, proactively sharing information across the team and establishing documentation, workshops, and an interactive team setting with consistent knowledge sharing.

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunication devices.

Extensive knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks.

Knowledge of telecommunication networking principles and practices.

Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.

Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of telecommunication devices, systems, and networks.

Skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic and repair equipment.

Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The IT Infrastructure Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES Guidelines include equipment operation and maintenance manuals and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of varied duties in the maintenance of university telecommunications networks. The variety of devices to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to install, maintain and repair telecommunication devices, systems, and networks. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of university operations.

CONTACTS Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, vendors, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing or walking. The employee frequently lifts light objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color. The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Annual salary of $34,356.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
