Job Summary / Description:

KGNS+ is looking for a dynamic anchor/multimedia journalist to join our newsroom. We’re looking for a newsroom leader who is energized by breaking news, developing sources, and cultivating community relationships. KGNS+ is looking for a journalist to join our team as an Anchor/MMJ. The successful candidate will anchor a newscast on a regular basis. The Anchor/MMJ researches, writes, reports, shoots video, and edits news material for television newscasts and all KGNS news platforms. The ideal candidate should consider themselves both an innovator and a lead story reporter. As an MMJ, you’ll go live multiple times a day. Our teammates are just as comfortable delivering breaking news in the field as they are from our newsroom and our CTV / Live Desk. You’ll be expected to strive for excellence with lighting, visual sequencing, including natural sound, and emotionally driven soundbites. This position is a combination of anchoring and reporting in the capacity of a multimedia journalist. We are looking for individuals who can turn a daily story and be assigned a newscast to anchor.

Duties / Responsibilities include:

Anchor assigned newscast (broadcast & digital)

Gather and report general assignment lead stories in multiple newscasts as an MMJ

Ability to shoot, write, edit, and post stories, pictures, and videos to serve our audience on all platforms

Ability to connect with the audience

Strong research skills with the ability to employ critical thinking skills to dig deeper into incoming news tips

Develop sources within the community to gain unique insight and reports on important and impactful issues

Appear on air and coordinate live shots

Work well under pressure in deadline‑driven situations

Candidate must work with a sense of immediacy and on a team while exhibiting sound judgment and ethics

Carry MMJ equipment

Qualifications / Requirements:

A college degree in journalism or a related field is required

Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable

Initiative and attention to detail are required

Be able to write clearly and accurately; great grammar!

Must be able to work well under sometimes intense pressure and tight deadlines

Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving in a manner that will work well with co‑workers, supervisors, and viewers

Ability to keep up with national and local news/weather is required

Ability to enterprise local hard‑news stories is required

Computer knowledge, including newsroom software, Microsoft applications, and Internet use

Produce newscasts, including stacking, writing scripts, editing copy, ordering graphics to fit stories, making maps, coordinating live shots with directors, production staff, reporters & photographers

Must be able to edit video and audio

Must be able to carry camera equipment (about 15‑20 lbs.)
