Advertising/Public Relations OR Broadcast and Digital Journalism Assistant Professor
Fresno State invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Advertising/Public Relations OR Broadcast and Digital Journalism. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in advertising and public relations or broadcast and digital journalism, advise students, conduct scholarly research and creative works, and participate in service-related activities.
Teaching & Research Responsibilities
Teach approximately 12 weighted teaching units (WTUs) per semester.
Receive course releases during the first two years and may apply for course reductions to support scholarly work.
Conduct independent research/creative activities and publish results.
Serve on department, college, and university committees; engage in community service.
Attend Media, Communications and Journalism events as required.
Qualifications
Ph.D. (or terminal degree) in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising or a closely related discipline, or
M.A. with five years of professional experience in a related field.
Applicants nearing completion of a Ph.D. must complete the degree by August 1, 2026.
Required Experience
Professional experience in advertising, public relations, broadcast journalism or digital journalism.
Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching.
Evidence of active scholarship, creative and/or professional activities.
Commitment to undergraduate teaching and student success.
Minimum one year of university or college-level teaching experience; teaching assistantship considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in the aforementioned fields.
Teaching or research background in artificial intelligence, digital communication, statistics, data analytics, data journalism, sports journalism, multimedia journalism, investigative reporting, or broadcast/digital news production.
Specialization in a specific Advertising/Public Relations discipline or Journalism discipline.
Evidence of or potential for an active research agenda and publication record in the respective field.
