The Heavy Equipment Operator II will need to be able to operate various types of heavy equipment for the maintenance, repair, and construction of roads, roadways, cemetery roads, and appurtenances. The major duties involve operating heavy equipment, dump trucks, water trucks, motor graders, and/or truck tractors for the repair, maintenance, and construction of the 1500+ miles of roads, streets, and trails on the Yakama Reservation. The incumbent also performs routine preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and may perform manual labor/tasks associated with the maintenance, repair, and construction of roads, roadways, and appurtenances; provide on the job training for subordinates. Differences between Heavy Equipment Operator I and II are based on skill level, judgment, and experience in operating various types of heavy equipment. Responsibilities

Operate various types of heavy equipment for maintenance, repair, and construction of roads, roadways, and related infrastructure on the Yakama Reservation. Perform routine preventive maintenance on assigned equipment. Perform manual labor/tasks related to road/roadway construction and appurtenances; provide on-the-job training for subordinates as needed. Communicate with the Transportation Superintendent, Transportation Supervisor, and Transportation Lead on project needs or issues. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment (e.g., water trucks, dozers, loaders, road graders, belly dumps, 18-wheel tractor-trailers, excavators, sweepers, snow plows). Knowledge of standard maintenance requirements and practices for heavy machinery. Knowledge of the Tribal system of roads, streets, trails, and cemeteries on the Yakama Reservation. Knowledge of traffic laws and safety practices related to heavy equipment operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to work independently in various weather conditions. Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent. At least one year of experience operating heavy equipment and machinery. Valid Washington State Driver's License with a Class A Commercial Driver's License certification, or ability to obtain one within probationary period. Must be able to obtain a Yakama Nation Tribal Driver's Permit. Must maintain physical condition and sensory capabilities required to perform duties; may require flexible hours and overtime including weekends and holidays. Must pass a pre-employment drug test. Enrolled Yakama Preference; all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply. Preferred Requirements

Vocational, Technical certification or on-the-job training certification in heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Employment Details
